According to reports out of Japan, ongoing Japan Ground Self-Defense Force and U.S. Army joint training exercises include a cyber attack component. The exercise between December 5th and 12th reportedly considers the scenario of Hokkaido being invaded from the north.

The full, original report (in Japanese) at MSN.

Interesting development given recent cyber operations against Japanese targets and known capabilities of state-supported actors in China and North Korea. We’ve previously noted security expert Ken Buckler’s statement: ”any modern war will now include cyber warfare capabilities.” It will be interesting to see what role threat intelligence plays in preparation and response.
